A short History of Fetish

When fetish first appeared in English in the early seventeenth century, xxxfetish.tube it referred to objects (often amulets) believed by certain West Africans to have supernatural powers. During the nineteenth century, the phrase took on a broader meaning: "an object of irrational devotion or reverence." The article need not be bodily: an individual may have a fetish for an idea, equivalent to an unwarranted belief that a specific economic system will resolve society’s ills. By the early twentieth century, fetish took on yet another which means fairly distinct from its antecedents: a sexualized desire for an object (such as a shoe) or for a body part that's indirectly associated to the reproductive act (akin to an earlobe).
